JOB SHADOW
Rules for the assignment:
Day of the Meeting: You must arrive between the time of _______ and the time of ___________.
Presentation format (google slides, PowerPoint, emaze, etc.)
Rules for the assignment:
- The person that you shadow cannot be a relative.
- The job that you shadow should be something you are interested in pursuing after graduation.
- The meeting must be 1-2 hours long.
- You must contact the person you wish to shadow and determine if it is feasible and set up a date and time.
- Remember your manners!
- Use Mr. /Mrs. /Ms. unless they request you to do otherwise.
- Identify yourself immediately.
- Get to your point quickly. These are busy people!
- Determine a time, date and location to meet.( Preferably a google hangout with parent involved, asking any afterschool job shadowing experience.
- Get directions, if needed.
- Ask what attire is appropriate. Mimic what they wear to work.
- It is better to be overdressed than underdressed.
- You only have one chance to make your first impression.
- Write down the number of the business/person is a safe place.
- Make a follow-up phone call.
- Make sure the date, time and location is still OK.
- This will remind the person of the plans for you to shadow them.

- Arrive at least 10 minutes EARLY!!!
- Wear appropriate dress.
- Fill out the worksheet provided.
- Ask lots of questions.
- Bring paper and notebook/clipboard to write notes on.
Presentation format (google slides, PowerPoint, emaze, etc.)
- Completed worksheets from the job shadowing packet List of 5 additional questions that you asked.
- No more than one page, but at least ½ page write up (in essay form) evaluating your day. Is this still a career that still interests you? Do you have any new concerns or ideas regarding this career area? What was the best part of the day? What was the worst part?
- Completed forms regarding dates and times of completing portions of the assignment.
- Thank you letter to the person you shadowed. This letter must include an envelope, address and stamp. After being approved by the instructor, it will be mailed. This is one of the most important parts of this assignment!
